Italian Appeal

Dear all,

As you know, an earthquake struck the Italian Abruzzi region on April 6th, 2009. The Province of L'Aquila was the worst hit with almost 300 people killed and 30 thousand homeless.

The Italian Ambassador in the United Kingdom, Giancarlo Aragona, has launched an appeal to promote an initiative to show solidarity to the victims. Many English schools have been contacted asking if they were prepared to offer places during summer holidays, for approximately 2 weeks, to young girls and boys (14-18) from the area of the earthquake.

So far 40 British schools have already offered 63 places, and several airlines have offered free return tickets to the U.K.

Our Director, Mr Simon Sharron, had very generously agreed to host some Italian students, but unfortunately this turned out not to be possible, as our school breaks early July for summer holidays and doesn't run summer courses.

However, other schools in Oxfordshire and Berkshire have agreed to host the students, and what is needed now is families prepared to offer free boarding to the teenagers that have been accepted by these schools.

We are writing to you appealing to your sense of solidarity and to ask if you would be prepared to host a young boy or girl from the affected area, for two weeks this coming July and/or August. If you are prepared to take part in this initiative, we would be grateful if you could contact us giving:

- your full name and address,

- the period in which you would be prepared to give your availability,

- any requirements/conditions you might have.

Should you need more information or clarifications, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We hope that you will take this initiative into consideration, and would like to thank you for you attention.

Best regards

CESPA Grants

CESPA funds are also used to give grants and help where needed. Regular grants are given to support school activities, sporting events, school plays and school trips. The main criteria are that the grant benefits as large a proportion as possible of the school. Decisions are usually made during the monthly CESPA meetings.

If you would like to apply for a grant, please fill in the attached form: Grantapplicationform.pdf and return it to Reception
